My Type, Apparently

So much for certainty.

My Type, Apparently artwork · Chris in FullFrom Still My Own

Attraction interrupts a description. An old suspicion catches itself before becoming someone else’s burden. The conversation grows more candid, more particular and much less innocent.

A note from Chris

Even your taste can surprise you.

I don’t have one fixed type. I enjoy finding out what someone is actually like, including the desires they assume I’ll judge or dislike. Sometimes what they hesitate to tell me is exactly what makes the conversation more interesting.

That openness doesn’t make me immune to an old association. A resemblance, a pause, a familiar feeling can suggest a story before the person has told me theirs. I wanted to enjoy the attraction without making someone new answer for someone else’s past.

There’s a lot of me in the joke. Being wanted can feel delicious. So can discovering what neither of our first impressions would have given away.

Let the person change the picture.

A mouth has his attention. So does what the man has to say. When a familiar pause awakens an old suspicion, the narrator catches the mistake before making someone new answer for another man’s lies. Attraction becomes more particular as they speak. Some things stay unspoken for now; curiosity can wait without disappearing.

You might give me one I haven’t triedFrom the lyrics of My Type, Apparently

An attraction is an opening, not an explanation.

A face can catch your attention before you know the person wearing it. A familiar pause can bring back someone who is not even in the room. The song keeps the spark and interrupts the shortcut: this man gets to tell his own story. As the conversation opens, so do the possibilities. The attraction becomes richer because neither person has finished discovering what the other wants.

On Still My Own

This is the openness promised at the end of Open When It Breaks, put to a flirtatious test. I Like You Looking takes mutual candor somewhere more explicit.

Passage 1
I stop before I make his lies Something you must answer for You say, “You might not like this.” I smile. “You’d be surprised. Some things you think would scare This good-boy face of mine Are things I’ve been hoping You’d bring up since the start.”

Concept, lyric writing, development and revision, musical and performance direction: Christian Rodriguez / Chris in Full.

Chris revised the language of attraction, projection and reciprocal disclosure, and approved recurring title hooks and spaces for rap-like phrasing. Seduction remains alive while an assumption about another person becomes open to revision.

Across Still My Own, Chris’s original writing, extensive rewriting and narrative development give form to his lived experience, imagination and emotional vision. He works between intuition and reasoning, refining language and musical direction so that phrasing, rhythm and delivery carry what he means. These notes describe creative development, not final recording credits.
