Still My Own · Track 11 / 16
Who we want. Out loud.
From Still My OwnSay the want. Leave space for an answer. Keep the right to stay or go. An intimate dare for people who would rather be wanted as themselves, than be wanted as somebody else.

A note from Chris
I enjoy the moment when someone’s expectations of me stop working. Especially when saying what I actually mean makes the encounter more interesting.
I can enjoy the performance and mean the desire. The answer might bring us closer, reveal something unexpected or give me a reason to leave. Make It Weird has that pleasure in it: the attraction, the risk and the wicked fun of saying what I mean while keeping a choice about what happens next.
The narrator knows that saying exactly what he wants can unsettle the room—and enjoys it. The flirtation stays playful while the answers reveal whether attention and desire can travel both ways. He can mean every wicked word, stop carrying an exchange alone and still leave with an appetite for people willing to meet him there.
I play a different game.
I tell the truth. You lose your place.
Funny what the truth undresses. From the lyrics of Make It WeirdThe performance is deliberate: a smirk, an admission, a question that makes the usual script wobble. Its candor gives the other person something real to answer. Desire can survive a mismatch, a refusal or a decision to leave. The song enjoys finding out—and leaves room for someone whose own wit and honesty can change the encounter.
An individual dare becomes a shared declaration. Let It Reach Me then asks what happens when that candor meets someone who can answer it with care.

Your turn.

Come and catch me by surprise—
Make my demons come out into the light.Concept, lyric writing, development and revision, musical and performance direction: Christian Rodriguez / Chris in Full.
Chris substantially revised passages about openly owned desire, self-possession and the freedom to stay or go. His performance direction holds wicked play, warmth, power and restraint together.
Across Still My Own, Chris’s original writing, extensive rewriting and narrative development give form to his lived experience, imagination and emotional vision. He works between intuition and reasoning, refining language and musical direction so that phrasing, rhythm and delivery carry what he means. These notes describe creative development, not final recording credits.
