Still My Own · Track 04 / 16
An afternoon worth staying for.
From Still My OwnA phone propped against a book. An unplanned laugh. Dishes that can wait. Self-company becomes a pleasure of its own, with room for an old ache and a new man’s Sunday plans.

Buena Compañía
A note from Chris
Meditating. Hiking. Doing nothing. Making a reel because an idea won’t leave me alone. I wanted to write about learning to enjoy time with myself, including the parts that don’t look impressive from the outside.
I still wanted connection. I just wanted to stop having to carry it to keep it alive. I wanted Good Company to make room for laughter without pretending nothing still hurt. There is a whole afternoon here, and I get to decide what to do with it.
Making something, losing the pose, laughing at the playback: the afternoon becomes absorbing. A memory can still hurt. Dishes can still sit in the sink. Neither cancels the enjoyment. The quietest turn is also the deepest: even a day with nothing made and nobody needing him would leave someone worth knowing.
I like who I’m withFrom the lyrics of Good CompanyA good afternoon does not have to prove that he is healed, productive or above wanting anyone. A memory can still hurt; the playback can still make him laugh. He can enjoy his own company and want someone to share the good part with. Neither feeling cancels the other. He is worth spending time with before there is anything to show for the day.
Its ease matters beside the album’s larger declarations. Being good company leaves room for another person, while giving the day value before anyone else arrives.

Good company, good company
I like who I’m with
Got the whole day to myself
And a life I want to liveAnd if I make nothing tomorrow
If nobody needs me all day
I’m still somebody worth knowing
Even with nothing to show
And if they don’t love what I’m making
I still love what feels like meConcept, lyric writing, development and revision, musical and performance direction: Christian Rodriguez / Chris in Full.
Chris refined the song so laughter and lingering hurt could coexist. Enjoying an ordinary afternoon did not have to imply complete healing, impressive achievement or the end of wanting connection.
Across Still My Own, Chris’s original writing, extensive rewriting and narrative development give form to his lived experience, imagination and emotional vision. He works between intuition and reasoning, refining language and musical direction so that phrasing, rhythm and delivery carry what he means. These notes describe creative development, not final recording credits.
